What a Cap and Gown Graduation Session Includes
A graduation session is a photo session for one graduate in cap and gown, plus whatever they earned the right to wear: stole, cords, medals or the diploma itself. One of our photographers runs the session, and every photo we deliver is edited by hand.
Every session includes:
- Portraits of the graduate in cap and gown, full length and close up.
- Detail shots of the achievement: stole, cords, diploma or school colors.
- One location, the spot you choose.
- Family portraits, in the Complete and Deluxe packages.
- A second location, in the Deluxe package, within 5 driving miles of the first.
Mesa Graduation Packages at $250, $395 and $595
There are three graduation packages. The difference is who appears in the photos and how many locations we shoot. A $150 deposit reserves any of them.

Where to Take Graduation Photos If You Study in Mesa
Your session can happen at a park, a street with character or a spot that means something to you, and a session with more than one location stays within 5 driving miles of the spot where it starts. Many graduates also want their school in the picture, and we can plan around that.
Mesa is home to graduates from many public and private high schools, from Mesa Community College (opens in a new tab), whose Southern and Dobson and Red Mountain campuses are both in Mesa, and from Arizona State University's Polytechnic campus (opens in a new tab), also in Mesa. Each school sets its own rules for photography on its grounds. We do not arrange permits, and we cannot promise access to any campus. If you want photos there, check your school's rules first; any permit or admission fee is yours to cover. If you would rather not depend on a campus, we can suggest public spots and bring your school colors into your outfit and details.
The 5-Mile Rule for Graduation Sessions With Two Locations
A session with more than one location stays within 5 driving miles of the spot where it starts.
- There is no travel fee within 25 driving miles of Tempe, Arizona (I-10 and US-60). If your location is farther, we quote the travel before you book, so nothing catches you off guard.
- In the Deluxe package, the second location must be within 5 driving miles of the first, so we don't lose the light on the road.
- Park admission fees, private location fees and permits are not included in the price.
Choosing the Time of Day for Graduation Photos in Arizona Light
The softest light for graduation photos in Mesa comes in the last hour before sunset or early in the morning. Midday Arizona sun is harsh: it puts shadows under the eyes, makes everyone squint and turns a dark gown into an oven.
That is why we suggest a start time based on the season and the location, and why we ask you to arrive on time. At a sunset session, every minute counts. Years ago, at a session in the mountains east of the Valley, our client arrived late and we only had time for a handful of photos before the light was gone. Since then we explain to every client why we chose that hour. The sun does not wait, not even for a graduate.
What to Bring to Your Graduation Photo Session
We suggest bringing:
- Your gown, pressed or hung up the night before so it has no wrinkles.
- Your cap, tassel, stole, cords and any medals you plan to wear.
- Your diploma or diploma cover, if you already have it.
- A change of clothes, if you want a few photos without the gown.
- Water, especially in the hot months.
If the Graduate Is Under 18, a Family Adult Comes Along
If the graduate or anyone in the session is under 18, an adult from their family must be present for the whole session. This rule applies to all of our sessions, with no exceptions. For many high school graduates, that adult is the same parent who steps into the family portrait.
When You Receive Your Graduation Photos
Usual delivery for a graduation session is 2 weeks. If you need your photos sooner, for an announcement or a gift, you can request 48-hour rush delivery for an extra $100.
These are usual timelines, not a guarantee. Your contract sets the final terms.
Group Graduation Sessions for Friends Who Graduate Together

How much do graduation photos cost in Mesa?
A graduation session costs $250 with the Essential package, $395 with the Complete package and $595 with the Deluxe package. A $150 deposit reserves your date, and the packages page shows what each one includes.
Can you take my graduation photos on my school's campus?
It depends on your school's rules, because each campus decides whether photos can be taken on its grounds. We do not arrange permits or promise access, and any permit or admission fee is yours to cover.
Can my family be in my graduation photos?
Yes, the Complete and Deluxe packages include family portraits. The Essential package is for the graduate alone.
When will I get my graduation photos?

Do you photograph several friends graduating together?
Yes, group sessions are quoted on request. Tell us how many graduates are joining and the date you want.
What happens if the weather is bad on my session day?
If the weather makes the session impossible, we move it to a new date at no cost. For any other change, give us 72 hours' notice and your deposit moves to a new date within 30 days.
Does an adult need to come if the graduate is under 18?
Yes, an adult from the family must be present for the whole session if the graduate or anyone in the photos is under 18.
